Listening to Music with Understanding - 2 (Period)
From grade 5, students need to be able to 'place' music in terms of its period and in some cases country of origin: Provenance. There are some pointers to this: by thinking in terms of the elements of music (left hand column) one can see that over the last 300 years each of them has gone, more or less, from being straightforward to being increasingly extreme or even fragmented.
Note to pedants: I know this is really simplified. I know it doesn't include jazz, nationalism, expressionism and impressionism. But hey! it's a start
